Mr. Rajan Mehta on returning from UK, where he studied Chartered Accountancy, went on to set-up his own business, instead of joining his family business of Garments and Finance. He set-up B&S partnership, an interior design firm in 1980 and has ever since, never looked back

Few years later in mid 80's, Rajan established Zeba, which began primarily as an exporter of handmade carpets & dhurries to the International markets. However, Rajan soon realised the potential of Home Furnishing and this fact was reiterated, when he participated in the Hiemtex Exhibition (the world's premier home textiles exhibition) under the brand name of Zeba. The collection proved to be a runaway success at the exhibition, and thus was born Zeba Home Textiles in 1997.(coordinating the handmade floor coverings with the fabrics and made ups)

From a small export company with a tightly knit team dedicated to research, innovation and contemporizing traditional design and technique, Zeba Home Pvt. Ltd. has grown into a company employing approximately 500 people (benefiting 15000 families across the country) and has a turnover of more than US $12 million in 2004.

Today Zeba is available through over 15 showrooms across India with its flagship stores at Worli, Colaba and Bandra in Mumbai, Greater Kailash I, New Delhi, DLF City Center, Gurgaon and Centrestage Mall, Noida. Zeba also has over 5 home fashion showrooms in England, Spain and Mauritius (opening up in New York in October, Manila and South Africa in November 2004.)

Zeba has serviced and created projects for a host of clients ranging from corporates like Unilever to hospitality clients like The Marriott and Taj Group of Hotels to homes of film personalities, consulates, expatriates and socialites. Zeba has also designed and developed products for leading international design labels, global chain stores and mail order companies and has partnered with national and international interior designer and architects.

Rajan is an avid reader, traveler and when his back permits, likes playing tennis, cricket and enjoys swimming in his spare time.

Attending the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York was an effort at formalizing and honing his formidable skills. While in New York, he absorbed all the creativity around him. He derived inspiration from what he already knew and what he imbibed during his years at FIT in New York. During these formative years, Krishna studied fashion, design, experimented with photography, computer graphics, art direction and went on to specialize in textile designing. During his New York stint, Krishna freelanced with NBC as a set designer for a brief time.

On his return to India, Krishna was instantly absorbed in the creative field at Zebaworld. Long before he became Design Director, Zebaworld Krishna involved himself in development and creation of Zeba designs, the operation and functioning of Zeba stores and customer consultancy and servicing.

Krishna today oversees the design creation for home textiles & hand made floor-coverings by constantly researching, innovating, improvising with inputs from customer interactions and traveling.

Krishna brought with him the concepts of mood boards, customized design services and value-added skills. Krishna has also designed and developed products for leading international design labels, global chain stores, mail order companies and has partnered with national and international interior designers and architects.

His designer line Krishna is soon to be launched in their company owned store in Soho, New York. The focus is now on introducing new stores in Paris, Tokyo, Johannesburg, Manila and Florence.

Under his guidance, Zeba has achieved great heights including winning a laurel in The Limca Book of Records for the largest hand-tufted carpet in the world. Krishna has also won two prestigious awards at the Annual Elle Décor International Awards in India for 2 years in a row, 2002-2003-2004. His inputs and involvement has repositioned Zeba as a home fashion brand from a home furnishing brand.

Zebaworld recently launched the Zeba Design Studio & Inspiration Center, which is spearheaded by Krishna. The 4000 sq ft Zeba Design Studio & Inspiration Center is created to offer complete customized and coordinated range of home textiles, lifestyle products and hand-made carpets and dhurries, to create a unique style statement for all personal spaces.

His art and creativity is reflected not only in his work but also his personal lifestyle. His new home in Bandra was recently featured as a stylish home in Elle Décor, India and was telecasted for stylish spaces on Star World's Style. Elle Décor, Italy and Wallpaper have also selected Krishna's house for their feature story in their forthcoming issue.

Krishna loves traveling and is always on the look out for exotic weaves, fibers, yarns and designs that could be modified and contemporized to create new and stunning works of art. Krishna enjoys playing around with raw material, mixing and matching and experimenting with designs. With his vibrant and intuitive palette of colour he treats the world to a rainbow vision that adds artistic value to the manner in which he can decorate homes.

Govinda Mehta, Director, Zebaworld has a degree in Business Administration specializing in Management, Human Resource and Marketing from Ithaca College, New York, USA. At 24 years of age, he brings a fresh perspective equipped with passion and energy to Zeba. Having familiarized himself with all aspects of Zeba's operations, he is currently involved in managing production in the areas of floor coverings and textiles – exports and retail oriented.

Right from the start Govinda has been highly involved in the general management front of the business. In 1999 he worked with Zeba for two months as a marketing/management trainee, where he conducted industry analysis, implemented methods to increase Zeba's market share, conducted market research to develop consumer insights and prepared and organized presentations for prospective clients-local and international.

In 2000 Govinda worked with Crest of London, a chain of souvenirs store to create an image changeover. He also did a stint with DSP Merrill Lynch in Mumbai, where he worked as a Researcher and Analyst. In the summer of 2001, Govinda worked with Ernst & Young in Bombay, where his several research reports were instrumental in decision making for acquisitions and mergers.

Govinda has earned several awards and recognition for his endeavors to achieve excellence while at college. He is an honorary member of SIGMA IOTA EPSILON, which is the National Honour Society for Management. He is also recognized by Deans Host an organization involved in the betterment of Business School and Deans List for Honorary Scholarly Achievement, 4 Semesters.

Govinda is enterprising and his objective, as he identifies it, is to balance his global learning with an adaptation to the Indian scenario and thereby adding a large amount of value to Zeba's growing.
